Puma trailer quality

O.K. guys, a friend looked at a Puma fifth wheel trailer. Any thoughts on the quality of the brand? We were just at a RV show, but didn't know he was scoping out a trailer, so didn't check them out.

I have a Puma 25RS, and even though it isn't bad and I have had no problems with what I have, I would call it an entry level trailer because of its no-frills construction. From my experience, I'd replace the single-stage converter with a five stage one ASAP. I'd also add an accumulator tank so the single speed water pump doesn't short cycle.

I would consider replacing the CH751 locks with automotive grade ones or Combi-Cams. Not because it provides that much more security, but the flimsy CH751 key tends to break off.

Nice thing about the 25RS is that the frame was intended to have a slideout on it. Since it has none, the TT's OCCC is relatively enormous.
  • We own a 2009 Puma 25RS. We bought it used, but it was almost like brand new inside. Good quality the way it was put together. We have ample storage space, like the way it is designed. We previously owned a Palomino PUP. It was good quality for the money also.
  • Bought a new Puma in January 2007 and traded it for a 5ver in March 2011. We camped about every other week end so we used it a lot. Never had an ounce of trouble out of it, never even in the shop for a warranty item. If you do buy one I highly recommend Cheyenne Camping Center in Walcott, IA. Best prices available. We bought our there even though we live in Kansas. I was a bit concerned about warranty as the nearest Puma dealer was 200 miles the other direction but never needed them.
  • I have had a couple late model Puma travel trailers and found them to be typical Forest River products. Not too flashy but with good layouts. They use the industry standard hardware, like Dometic air conditioners and Suburban stoves. Good buys in my estimation.
  • My wife and I owned a new 2012 Puma bunkhouse until we traded for our current Coachmen 5th wheel. Although we really liked the Puma overall, we had several small issues the required us to return it to the dealer a couple of times. In my opinion, most of the items should not have gotten past a quality-control inspection at the factory. They were things like a mini blind completely missing, the adjusting wand for another blind missing, the DVD player didn't work, a window glass that was chipped at the edge, etc. These were especially annoying since we made the mistake of buying from a dealer that was about 1-1/2 hours from us. Once all these issues were corrected, though, we really enjoyed the trailer, especially the outdoor kitchen that it had. The only reason we traded it off was that it was designed for family use, and our family never got around to going with us. We traded for a 5th wheel because it is much more comfortable for just the 2 of us. I would not be afraid to buy another Puma, but I would look it over thoroughly and get all the bugs corrected before accepting delivery on it.
  • They are pretty good for an entry level trailer.

They do offer a ton of options, and even a cherry cabinet upgrade, if you need them to look prettier.

Also, check out Prime Time's Avenger line....

  • Never heard anything negative. Actually just sold my TT today & considering a Puma.
