Around Indiana I’ve seen black, green, and yellow diesel nozzles—very confusing. I punched the diesel start button after picking up the gas nozzle one time, and the pump told me there was a problem, thank goodness. I now so the double check myself every time I pump diesel or gas. The high pressure fuel pumps put in diesel pickup trucks since 2011 are EXTREMELY sensitive to contamination from alcohol, gasoline, or water. They tend to grenade taking out the fuel injectors in the process. I have read of a case (Ford 6.7) where the fuel smelled funny and it took out the fuel system. On analysis it turned out to be contaminated with alcohol, probably from the tanker truck not being cleaned out good enough. That case was able to go back on the insurance from the service station. I now actually, occasionally, smell the nozzle before pumping. Fuel pumps in older engines are not as sensitive, and I have no idea how sensitive they are in the big class A engines.
