Purchase Price advice on 2 yr old New TT

I've run into a 'deal' I'm seriously considering. A lot has a 2012 New (as I assume unused) TT. MSRP is ~$23.5K, asking was >$18K and he is willing to take ~$13K with my pup trade in (about $1,500).

First off, is this a smart move or not? Supposedly I still get the full warranty, but is the age going to adversely affect any resale value down the road? Or if I get into an accident will the pay off be poor?

Sorry I'm being so vague, but I am being a bit protective of this deal.

  • First, depending on the model, that may not be such a great deal. The MSRP for my TT was about the same, the purchase price was about the same, I didn't have a trade in, and the camper rolled off the assembly line after I ordered it. The oldest thing I have found on it are the axels, which were 2 weeks old when I took delivery; the tires were 5 days old.
The TT you are looking at has been on the lot for at least 2 years. That means it is overdue for roof checks. You may already have leaks.
MSRP seems to really be a meaningless figure, as far as I can tell. You would be better served to find out what the current loan value is. For the most part, if you decide to resell, the camper should finance itself, that is, the loan value should be the same or more than your asking price. If you owe more than the loan value, then you are upside down, and did not make a very good deal.
  • I would ck. The vin number, to see if it ever had been registered.
  • Need more information. What is the make and model of the new unit?
Waht is the make and model of your trade in?
