Purchasing our first travel trailer, need help

Hi all we are moving up from pop up to travel trailer and have decided on the passport 3320 bh. We then joined good Sam and read the forums and noticed many saying keystone rv is awful with junk products. Does anyone here have an opinion or can offer some advice to us to find honest reviews or information. Thank you!!

  • I get really frustrated when Keystone gets bashed. I'm on my 3rd Thor Industries travel trailer and other than initial warranty fixes in the first 6 weeks of ownership, all three of mine have been great campers. I've never had any electronics or appliances fail. Well, ok, after 7 years the microwave oven died in our Keystone Springdale.

Like all brands, it only takes one person not happy with his or her decision and then they bash everything. Any brand can have a 'lemon' that does not mean ALL of them are lemons.

From all I've heard, read, and folks I've met that have Bullets, the Bullet is a pretty good camper. Functionally, there is nothing wrong with them apart from any other brand.

I've owned a Dutchmen Sport, a Keystone Springdale, and a Keystone Outback. My first camper was a Starcraft Venture pop-up, and before that a couple different tents.

Bullet is not a HIGH end camper. It's mid-range, meaning the interior design does not have granite counter tops and porcelain floors. The cabinets might not be solid wood, but may be particle board. The surface on the cabinets may be covered with a stick on cover that looks like wood. (My Keystone was like that). But the cabinets were solid, never broke down and never had problems with the doors or drawers (after a minor fix on one drawer once.)

My Outback is all solid wood cabinets, but the basic manufacture style is pretty much the same. Trailer frames, appliances, propane tanks, furnaces, holding tanks, all of that, pretty much all come from the exact same manufacturer. The only slight difference might be a work crew that had a bad day when the trailer was built. I think that's what causes 'lemons'.

If you are looking to purchase "new", your camper will come with a 1 year bumper-to-bumper warranty. Any issues will be discovered the first trip you go on if not sooner. And of course, a camper (any brand) will stay only as nice as you maintain them. Abuse it, use it for purposes it was never built for, and it will be junk in no time at all. For example, you will NOT be able to take a Bullet down forest service roads or off roading like a an ATV. You'll tear it up in a heartbeat. But on street roads, you can probably tow it 500,000 miles with normal maintenance. User your new camper as it was intended, and it will serve you well for years to come. Abuse it, and it will be become junk very fast.

No. I completely, 100%, undeniably, emphatically, beyond everything, totally, disagree with the nay-sayers on these forums.
  • The manufactures must keep the RV's light or they will not be able to be towed by anything.

Check out the RV and see if it fit and finish is good enough for your use.

    Fred.
  • Keystone is now part of the giant, Thor. Thor in some circles does not have the best reputation. Especially in their lower lines. Construction techniques is your biggest concern. Educate yourself on how they are put together, screwed and glued or stapled? Most all of the appliances will be the same ones used in high end RV's too so ignore those for the time being. Concentrate on construction and fit and finish. Look carefully to see how much care was taken in assembly. Just like buying a house, you need to thoroughly check things out before purchase.
