I'm curious as to what Passport model you bought. If your son is sleeping in the dinette fold down, why not look for a bunk model.
The Passport 2400bh has double bunks, and I've seen them for sale for $21k. That model also has a small outside kitchen. I've seen them in the standard white exterior, and with the upgraded grey fiberglass exterior...No question for me the upgraded color exterior was beautiful, the plain white looks dated.
Not sure what the protection package covers... Maybe accidental damage? If it's new, the warranty should cover anything that breaks for the first year.
