We tend to blame this on the sales people, and I agree that the sales person should be knowledgeable enough never to let this happen.
However, I wonder. Why do people spend countless hours researching their next 60" LCD screen but will only spend an hour looking at a $20k trailer not having learned the first thing about towing or the impact of dragging a 6000# brick behind them down the road?
Someone on another board, who was upset that the salesman sold him something he shouldn't have been towing, asked "how many really researched their purchase?". His thinking was that most people impulse buy like he did. Maybe they do, but its a major purchase, why would you impulse buy?

Not a thing. But there seems to be this mentality that some push that you must do 70 up those grades or you don't have enough TV.
