Pushing the season.

Well it is sad to say, but tomorrow we will winterize the TT. :(

Our last three trips we had day time high temps in the 50’s and night time lows temps in the upper 20’s.

We had the State Parks pretty much to ourselves and the hiking trails were almost empty.:)

But, the TT is standard issue and we do not want to be caught in a long spell of below freezing weather; particularly when the TT is setting in the yard between trips.

Still we did squeeze and extra 3 or 4 weeks out of the season, but now, a little discretion is in order. ;)

Till next spring; "Be safe everyone"
  • Yup, the DW and I were discussing the fact that we have dry camped in the TT before. From our PUP days we still have the porta-potty.

Even here in Northern Indiana, Pokagon State Park keeps their a few spots in their CG open because of their toboggan slide, snowshoe and ski trails.

Still, the snow and ice tend to limit our wintertime travels. We are however laying out a route to AZ for a mid-winter break. But for now we will bring out the anti-freeze and bring in the battery.
  • When I stay here in the midwest for the winter, I just winterize the camper, and then use it "dry" for camping trips. I agree that winter can be nice in that you pretty much have the state parks to yourself. I also use the camper to take trips to see my brother out at the farm.
For this winter though, I'll be heading back to Arizona until springtime. Winter in the SW is the best use of the camper for me. :)
  • You do know that Indiana State Parks are open all year. They just turn the water off. You can continue to go camping at the State Parks, even in the snow. Just cart your own water in and use the out-houses, or get a port-a-potty inside your camper and dump it in the out-house.

No reason to call it quits. Just pull in, pick a spot, set up camp, and have fun. DNR will come around to YOU and collect for the night. It's easiest if you pay cash. If they do NOT have a DNR uniform on and are not driving a DNR vehicle and do not give you a receipt, don't give them any money.
  • We have gone at Thanksgiving several times, once in a tent but the last time cold weather arrived which we could handle but snow and ice followed right after our trip and we could not cover the TT for the winter. There were never days in a row for it to dry off before we covered it. Now we cover it a little earlier.
And nothing happened when it was not covered but husband worried because we were gone all winter.
  • It is time to make reservations! Memorial Day 2016 is within the 6 month window now if you use the 15 day overlap trick.
  • Now is a good time to check your roof for any potential leaks and do your PM.
You don't want a surprise in the spring.
And, start planning your trips for next year. Spring is just around the corner. :)
