I think it depends on the ages of the kids, the number of kids, and the campground itself.
Kids all under 10, I wouldn't do it - but they wouldn't be too big for or uncomfortable in the RV bunks. Teens I'd be ok with if there were at least 2 and they weren't problem kids. But I'd leave the RV door unlocked so they could come inside if needed/desired. I probably wouldn't put one teen and one or more pre-teens in a tent - because if anything happened to any of the younger ones, that's a lot of guilt on the teen. If there were at least 2 teens in the group, then I would be OK.
The type of campers, seclusion of campsites, occupancy, distance from interstates, etc. Would factor in also.
