Quad bunk ladder

I was going to make one with PVC on our last camper but sold it before I got around to it. Just an idea.

Ours doesn't have ladders. I was going to make some, but the kids manage to climb up there just fine. That project has been dropped off my list.

I once needed a ladder for a camper bunk bed. Got on the highway, that would bring me to the next town, where the lumber yard was, and there, on the side of the road, is a bunk bed ladder. Perhaps it fell out of a pickup that was moving somebody? Stopped, picked it up and returned home. It fit perfectly. Project done.

Our oldest DD is now 5 and wanted the top bunk this year. I made a ladder out of 3/4" dowel and 1"x3" oak baseboard trim pieces I got at the lumber yard. I drilled equal/even holes on each board and glued the dowel into the holes to make the rungs. The hardware store had some brackets that I screwed on the top of the ladder that hook onto the lip on the edge of the bunk. Total cost was a round $32...sorry but I don't have pics.

We use a folding step stool, it comes in handy to help my DW get to the higher cabinets also.

We never got around to getting a ladder set up for the upper bunks. They were 6 and 8 when we got the quad bunks and they've always just shimmied up to the top on their own. It would just take up space anyway.

I made one out of red oak 1x stock I had. Notched the stringers for flat rungs, glue and screwed it, and made hooks to engage the top of the center drawer/cabinet unit so it can be easily removed. In the center, both top bunks can be accessed from the ladder. It works very well.
