I had a Husky Centerline TS, and the hitch is not designed to do that.
Unhook it as designed, and as recommended by the manufacturer. It takes what, maybe 1-2 minutes more? Are you in that much of a hurry?
BTW - Like your handle. What year Chevy2? I have a 63 hard top.
