I can,t beleave you went to rock auto, they have the cheapest made stuff on earth. a rebuilt would have been a better starter. but I( hope it works out good for you.- theoldwizard1Explorer II

Have it professionally rebuilt.
Is there ANYWHERE in the US that does this ?
Permanent magnet starters are really very simple. The only wear items are the bearing, the brushes and the commutator. While the windings need to be tested for sort and opens (not likely if the commutator does not have excessive wear) they do not commonly fail.
Clean the commutator bars with 200+ grit every cloth. Replace the brushes. Replace the solenoid (if you can find a replacement). - midnightsadieExplorer III can,t beleave you went to rock auto, they have the cheapest made stuff on earth. a rebuilt would have been a better starter. but I( hope it works out good for you.

In your neck of the woods it would be rusted out. My truck has zero rust, even above the wheel wells. I will drive the truck until it has a major failure so value is irrelevant to me.
That truck is probably worth $2,000 max. It sure ain't worth putting a $200 starter on it. Put $75 - $100 starter on it. If it last 5 years you got your moneys worth out of it. Good luck with that top bolt. - colliehaulerExplorer III

Don't know what year your F250 or I would have looked it up...
Thanks everyone for your input. - bid_timeNomad IIThat truck is probably worth $2,000 max. It sure ain't worth putting a $200 starter on it. Put $75 - $100 starter on it. If it last 5 years you got your moneys worth out of it. Good luck with that top bolt.
- amxpressExplorerI recommend a new starter from Ford. The first one lasted 200K, didn’t it? Warranties on reman units usually only cover the part, not the labor to R&R it. BTW, I am a retired mechanic.
- twodownzeroExplorerI would check your cables and battery with the symptom you report.

Depends if you're fixing it to sell or keep for a long time.
IMO, quality parts stores like Napa and Carquest used to have good reman parts. Now they're all the same junk as the bargain parts stores. Anything with the Dorman brand is c rap.
I would take a quality REMAN starter from NAPA any day over a new one from them because the new will be a giant POS made in China.
They are NOT the NAPA they used to be!!! - colliehaulerExplorer III

Hey I'm a shade tree mechanic myself, all opinions welcome.
I would check the price on one like say ORilleys. I bet they offer one with a lifetime warranty. I have never had to take advantage of the replacement warranty. :h
Whoah, just noticed you needed opinions from "mechanics" well that isn't me.
