Since the OP has not responded and has given very little useful information how would you want anyone to give any kind of diagnosis?
As for a scanner if there is a CEL you would use a scanner for that. Since the truck has stalled at least two times there should be codes stored and a CEL on.
The idea that anyone could correctly diagnosis any issue over the internet, with any kind of accuracy is laughable.

Yes, but we are going on the limited info that was given. Going off that we can only guess. And we even said it's a guess in our internet diagnosis. The OP has to take it from there. And knowing that vintage 5.4L and its timing chain issues. That is where I suggest to start.
