Thanks for the replies so far....
I plan to set up our TT with solar panels to keep our batteries topped up, but run a genset in eco mode once in a while to do that job if we're not keeping up.
We are VERY sensitive to disturbing others with our noise of any kind - so we always want to do the right thing. A/C would likely be run only at times when everyone else is doing the same thing, or when we are alone in the boonies, so perhaps we won't have to worry too much about the noise level of a Yammy 2800i.
It seems more cost effective to buy one generator rather than two, although if only one is needed most of the time, it would clearly be easier to handle and operate.
Does anyone put a plywood box (open on one end for ventilation) over their genset to mitigate some noise? I wondered if that would work, facing the open side away from people.
My thinking with the twins was, in the winter time I only need one, so that's 45 lbs to lug around instead of 80+ the bigger guys weigh. Of course, it is 2x the oil changes, and 2x generators to lug. The positive is I have 3200 watts continuous power and 4000 watts peak - so I can have the A/C running and still use the microwave, run the fridge on electric, etc.
To block sound, I use my truck, it isn't blocking any air flow, is nothing extra to lug and is multi purpose :)
The twins have run in snow and heavy rain, no problems... there aren't any vents on the top for water to fall into, and the side vents are louvered downwards, so rain's not getting in there either. They're all plastic on the outside, even the chrome trim detail, nothing to rust.
