Well I called that one wrong...would think that a leaking rack would have shown some evidence in either garage floor spots or low fluid. Glad you are getting it fixed. Cleared for takeoff!
Not necessarily. I have worked for a few shops that would tell you anything you wanted to hear; true or not.
It went something like this:
Hey Jimmy this here customer says he thinks he's got's a leak on his steering rack. Put that puppy on the two poster right away and give it a lookover willsya.
Yep boss man, shoy does. It also needs brakes and shocks and a new torque converter.
Mr. customer, I recommend you have us replace that rack right away because if that seal blows if can turn into a Pinto fireball. You don't want that to happen to your family do yaz?
One shop made bank by telling customers to change their oil every 3K. Once in a while a customer would point out that their manual said every 5k or 7K or whatever. Boss man would say, do you really think the manufactures have your best interest at heart? Then he would add, "you don't want to be stuck on the road with a froze up engine do yaz?" That would get them every time.
He retired on the "great customer service" he did. He must have been very thorough because he would find thousands of $$$$ of work other shops missed. :R
