Cardone rack on rockauto $145 + core. Comes with new inner rod ends too.
never done one on a GM but my Ram's rack is right out in the open, should only take 1/2 hour tops. That Malibu took me 4 1/2 hours and a lot of swearing :o :M
OP: did the pump ever run dry? If not there should not be any reason to replace it. If it has a remote fill reservoir then I would replace that as there is a filter screen inside that will clog up and restrict the fluid flow. Otherwise I don't see any reason to change out the pump, other then to boost the dealerships service sales. IMO
Don
Hi Don, No the pump never did run dry. Other dealers/other states have commented from time to time that they had topped it off. Orlando, Clearwater, Atlanta, Kansas City... none of them owned by the same person or group. Orlando ran a dye test to search for a leak at one point but could not find evidence of one. :h So it's been under a watch and wait ever since. No one could prove it was a culprit but they all had suspicions.
As for the tie rods... well.. Atlanta brought those to my attention a year ago.. showing wear..same thing...watch and wait.
A different poster alluded to sham "customer service" and telling the customer what they wanted to hear. Not the case here. The tech and the advisor did not pressure me. In fact...they did say that replacing the pump might not be needed but wouldn't gamble. I could continue to wait and see on that, my call.
Before making the final call I did a quick phone risk consult. The end result... I'm here... I've watched and waited long enough... lets just get it all done and over with. I travel long distances alone and want the odds in my favor.
The upside... I get my truck back today with a few days of "shake down" before heading to Atlanta next week. And.. I got to drive a 2014 Silverado home and back. Nice truck...LT. Quiet and comfy.
