IMHO, where the F150 with the 2.7 EB beats the RAM EcoD is in the payload department, assuming you get its HD Payload option it can max around 2000#.
Watch TFLT's video. They address the issues. The ED's mileage also plummets while towing at the limit much like the Ecoboost. You really have no free lunch - the 2.7 EB will be like a 5.4L engine under max boost and the ED will be a 6.0L engine. No free lunch.
I won't touch gas vs diesel as they are both well suited for towing. Why? Turbochargers.
