For $4000 less, and only 2000# less towing capacity. Not to mention 300 free reving horsepower to get me onto the highway or put a smile on my face at a light, 3.0 diesel seems to be an easy sell only to "diesel guys".
I still think 240hp is setting the bar too low. Nissan is going to steal this niche with their cummins. Dodge, ahem, Ram will have 1 good year IMO.- My 2013 Hemi 1500 laramie crew cab gets 19-20 on the highway....gets 12mpg towing a 3k atv trailer (sad). Payload is horribly low which is why I am selling it and going with a 3500 cummins, but I bet this eco diesel can do a good bit better than mine and I bet it will be a big hit

I did and may be a little dense so can you point out where Ram specifies numbers. Or the EPA.
In Link #1, I found this:At a first drive press launch for the truck last week Ram was coy on fuel economy estimates but did say the truck would best the V6 model’s already best-in-class numbers of 18 MPG city, 25 MPG highway and 20 MPG combined.

So do tell where these #s have been released. Cause Ram ain't saying yet...- Well if this pickup releases averaging "real world" mid 20's mpg and pushing upper twenties on road trips. I don't think you will see Ram having a problem filling orders for it. However if you hit the magic 3...0.. mpg highway they wont be able to build enough of them.
It really doesn't matter what the mpg sticker says on the window. The internet and word of mouth both good and bad will move (or not)the majority of these especially after the first year of production.
If you own a diesel, ask yourself why you own one? Why did you pay a premium for that drivetrain? The vast majority on an RV site will say pulling power/capacity and MPG . Well in a half ton I don't think that plays (as strongly), if you want power you will own an HD. So now ask yourself why a diesel half ton over a gas version. Its simply MPG, with some towing capacity, but the MPG has to be significant enough to justify the diesel drivetrain premium, the fuel cost premium (in most areas)and the diesel ass tax issues such as letting the diesel warm up in the Winter, gelling, more costly servicing and more costly repairs once the vehicle is out of warranty (some of these are more perceived than reality). So mid 20's mpg doesn't, in my view, make this a smash hit. However if word spreads that you can pull 30 mpg or just over going to grandma's house, and still pull a decent sized RV with the same pickup. That will be a huge hit, but it doesn't appear to me that the Ram 1500 is capable of that kind of mileage from what is coming out. itguy08 wrote:

2 Possible scenarios come to mind:
1. Not hitting targets to "blow everyone away" so they are figuring how. (and from what has been reported, it's not Earth-shattering)

I vote for #1 - there is no excuse to not talk #'s this late in the game. Or even say "We expect and EPA 25/30"... Yet there is nothing at all.

Don - I vote for 'not hitting targets' and engineering is burning the midnight oil.
