As far as HP goes nope it's not competing with the EB. The ED was intended for the person that wants a truck but also wants great fuel mileage, something the Ford Eco-Boost has never been able to pull off.

While the EcoBoost doesn't get 27+ every day, neither does the "ED" get 28 every day. If it ever achieves that, it would be an anomaly. Yes, I've gotten over 27 mpg with my EcoBoost 4x4 3.55 gears, driving 56 mph on cruise. Proof is in the pic below. That was a trip down the old US24 from Waterville to Napoleon. You know that road, I'm sure.
BTW, I like your reference to the Fiat/Ram product as "ED". It has ED alright, better put a blue pill in the gas tank....
