To say the factory is going to turn this engine up 125 HP is ridiculous and silly. The Duramax with WAY more cubes hasn't even achieved that goal in 15 years. They haven't even broke the 100 HP mark yet since they first came out.
Newer diesels are much more sympathetic to tuning. Not too long ago Audi and Peugeot had diesels in their sportscar prototypes. Audi won Lemans outright several times. Some of that technology has drifted down to their passenger cars and Vans,
A gasser hasn't won Lenans since 2005. The last two were won by diesel hybrids.
The potential is there. Audi's 3.O S spec TDI puts out 104 HP per liter and 160 lb Ft per liter. That trumps the EB 3.5's 102 HP per liter and 120 lb ft per liter. Even the standard TDI snd Ecodiesel make 140 lb ft per liter. The EB also needs to rev 1000 RPM higher than the TDI to reach its peak HP.
Diesel's big torque has them putting out more HP in lower rpm ranges and the gassers ability to rev higher allows them to make more peak power but at a cost in fuel economy. Depends which characteristic is more important to you.
