You mistake "can't" with "won't" here.
The Big Three are in a figurative poker game with their big diesels. Nobody is going to show the full capabilities of their engine, for fear that the other guy has a better engine. They keep some HP and TQ in reserve so that whenever someone raises the bar a little, they can keep up.
I'll go with that.
Bottom line is, can't or won't; the little oil burner is not going to be tuned up to the HP of the Ecoboost in a few years. Anybody that thinks that they will is delusional.
They just don't have that goal in mind.
The diesel wants to go with mileage and the Ecoboost wants to go with power on demand. Both do a great job.
Like has been said; you want power or do you want mileage?
