Got these # from a RAM brochure online:
EcoDiesel 1500 Quadcab 6'4" Box (4x2)
9050# Tow
1430# Payload (Max)
5.7L Hemi 1500 Quadcab 6'4" Box (4x2?)
10400# Tow
1830# Payload (Max)
Despite it's higher low-end torque numbers, the Ecodiesel is rated lower than the 5.7L V8 for payload and towing. That 400# drop in max payload is especially hard to take in a half-ton.
The 3L V6 Ecodiesel can't be that much heavier than a 5.7L V8 so I guess it's the higher HP that's giving the Hemi it's better payload and tow capacity? Not sure what sort of voodoo they use to come up with these numbers.
The mpg is nice, but if you can't tow/haul more, the cost of ownership makes it a tough sell, for me anyway. (And I really like a diesel's low-end torque and mpg.)
