Just out of curiosity what is the highest payload you can get in a 1500 crewcab with the Ecodiesel?? If they were able match Fords Max Tow and HD payload #'s I might be willing to jump from the Ford band wagon. Until then i will just deal with the poor mpg on the Ecoboost...
No way will they come close to Ford's MaxTow (and it's worse compared to the HD Payload package). Even the 5.7L Hemi can't match Ford's payloads.
Not sure why. For a while I thought it was the rear coil springs, but now they have them in the 2500 with 4000# payloads, so it can't be that. 5 lug axle and wheels? Just dunno, but maybe they want you to go straight to the 2500, which now rides much better with the rear coils. Unfortunately there's a fair price premium going up to the 2500, and you won't get the mileage of the EcoDiesel. Nice truck though, especially with the 6.4L Hemi or Cummins.
You are 100% correct if you want HD towing you buy a HD truck. HD packages in 1500 trucks get you a want-to-be 2500 truck so why do it?
You are not correct here however. The 2500 with the 6.4 and 3:73 gears is $42,120 and will out haul and tow the Eco-Boost hands down. Now the mileage is something else. Is running 17-19 MPG city/hwy a lot lower then the Eco-Diesel but on par with the Eco-Boost if you look at the fact it's a true 2500 and can be had with a 8' beed unlike any of the 150/1500 trucks in crew cab configuration.
