HD packages in 1500 trucks get you a want-to-be 2500 truck so why do it?
??? Why not ???
There's a lot of folks towing TT with ~1000# tongue weight. A payload of 2000# is just about right for them (and me). Ford provides that in various configurations of the F150. RAM should consider doing that too.
You are not correct here however. The 2500 with the 6.4 and 3:73 gears is $42,120 and will out haul and tow the Eco-Boost hands down. Now the mileage is something else. Is running 17-19 MPG city/hwy a lot lower then the Eco-Diesel but on par with the Eco-Boost if you look at the fact it's a true 2500 and can be had with a 8' beed unlike any of the 150/1500 trucks in crew cab configuration.
If I needed a 2500, the RAM 2500 with the 6.4 would be at the top of my list. But I don't need one. As for price comparisons, I just built a RAM 2500+6.4L, and it would cost Can$47K, about what you were saying. But then I built an F150 with HD Payload and Ecoboost for Can$37K, approx. same options. Sure, the RAM 2500 + 6.4L is a more capable truck, payload is over 3500# IIRC. But I don't need that and I don't intended to spend 10K on something I don't need.
Also, your 2500 + 6.4L mileage numbers are perhaps optimistic. I don't think there's much data available.
