Like I said, you clearly have no limited experience with current diesels sold and used by millions in North America. I even have one of those European ones, 2012 VW Passat TDI. Starting at -15F is uneventful without an engine block heater after about 3second delay. Youtube is has some startup videos of late model diesels.
