All I can say is that my 2013 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Sport with a 3.0 L Turbodiesel and all wheel drive, at 5000 pounds, with 240HP and 406 ft lbs of torque is good and plenty. 0-60MPH in 6.9 seconds. For a very heavy AWD SUV, that's plenty quick enough for me. Pulls 21 feet and 4000 pounds + of travel trailer just fine, and gets 17 to 18.5 MPG most of the time doing it. Then when empty... 30 to 37 MPG. You read that correctly.
Don't knock a common rail diesel until you've owned one a couple of years.
I think the ecodiesel will do just fine, it's the RAM part that's USA made that will fall apart all around the engine and transmission, assembled by drunk on the job Union workers that prevents me from buying one.
