As for it being "fuel sucking"? It should be far thriftier than the big diesels, and likely will match the lower end V6's, yet pull better than an Ecoboost.
So not putting in a giant diesel motor makes it "pointless"? I'd point you to their growing sales numbers to clearly highlight that it is anything but pointless.
What you don't seem to understand is that 70% of 1/2 ton trucks never tow more than 1000lbs or do much if any actual "work". That makes the small diesel a perfect choice.
You just can seem to understand that your particular wish list for a truck is not what the general public wants.
