Haven't towed with one, but did test drive it. It was quiet, smooth, and yes, powerful. I had no sensation whatsoever that it was a diesel or lacking for power. The single word that stood out for me was "refinement" I've driven every half ton truck on the market today and can promise, there is nothing finer out there. It assured me it would have no problem pulling my camper or carrying the loads we require. If it's not enough, the simple solution would be, 2500/250, if that's not enough, move further up. It's not rocket science. That half ton diesel is an ideal combination, and if used within its capabilities will provide excellent economy, performance and unlike some vehicles I've owned, a whole lot of satisfaction. For those who wish to trash mouth, this truck, or Ram trucks in general, don't drive it. Words can become embarrassingly difficult to swalllow.

3 things I got from your review.
1) You think 240 hp = powerful
2) You currently own a Ram and like it
3) You are satisfied with your Ram after a year (still new)
Even Diesel Power mag acknowledged the truck lost speed and got pretty damn hot on a moderate climb. I believe it was motor trend that commented it struggled to keep it's speed up also......
I had to pass a couple of highway turtles on an undivided highway, into a 20mph headwind while towing. Right there is why I wouldn't buy the ED. When the pedal is too the floor, it's 240hp. Oh, and my quad was in the box, so I'd have been about 500# overweight anyhow......
Hey... where did you pull that 240 HP figure from? Out of your azz? Nowhere did Shelley mention the HP in his post, nor did he mention the torque figures.
Go buy a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton and quit trolling on this 1/2 ton truck. Don't go away mad, just go away.
I did test drive one. The quad cab version weighed, I think 6000 #s. It, of course, felt a bit slower and heavier than my 5000 lb touareg with 406 ft lbs of torque all in at 1750 rpm.
I would think it tows my 21 foot trailer similar to my Touareg. There, we are talking about a large amount of frontal area and wind resistance. Torque numbers are in favor of the Dodge.
I think it will do fine for light trailering of travel trailers, to about 21 to 24 feet, not so much toy haulers, which are just too damn heavy for such a small motor... you need the cubic inch displacement of 6 liters or so for the weight of a toy hauler with all the fuel and tools.
The Eco diesel fills a niche. Just not yours.
