Haven't towed with one, but did test drive it. It was quiet, smooth, and yes, powerful. I had no sensation whatsoever that it was a diesel or lacking for power. The single word that stood out for me was "refinement" I've driven every half ton truck on the market today and can promise, there is nothing finer out there. It assured me it would have no problem pulling my camper or carrying the loads we require. If it's not enough, the simple solution would be, 2500/250, if that's not enough, move further up. It's not rocket science. That half ton diesel is an ideal combination, and if used within its capabilities will provide excellent economy, performance and unlike some vehicles I've owned, a whole lot of satisfaction. For those who wish to trash mouth, this truck, or Ram trucks in general, don't drive it. Words can become embarrassingly difficult to swalllow.
3 things I got from your review.
1) You think 240 hp = powerful
2) You currently own a Ram and like it
3) You are satisfied with your Ram after a year (still new)
Even Diesel Power mag acknowledged the truck lost speed and got pretty damn hot on a moderate climb. I believe it was motor trend that commented it struggled to keep it's speed up also......
I had to pass a couple of highway turtles on an undivided highway, into a 20mph headwind while towing. Right there is why I wouldn't buy the ED. When the pedal is too the floor, it's 240hp. Oh, and my quad was in the box, so I'd have been about 500# overweight anyhow......
Power is relevant, but yes 240 HP and 420 tq can indeed be considered "powerful". I currently own a Ram truck, because I do like it, and yes, to no surprise for a reasonable person, I am quite satisfied with it.
Was glad to answer your questions and look forward to reading more of your insight.
