Oil can tolerate higher operating temps, but 270 in the winter is too high. I would think the Ram would have a better cooling system, but then again, there have already been reports of very elevated engine temps, so who knows.
I will add, high oil temps in one of my previous Dodges with the 318 Magnum resulted in low oil pressure, and eventual engine damage.
Bottom line, I would want to see oil temps no higher than 260, but we know in the summer that GC will likely see 280's plus. Mandatory synthetic oil would be appropriate.
Truth be told, the lack of power was the bigger issue in that test, 50mph towing a boat? Imagine what a small "house on wheels" behind would feel like. I have towed that section before, and my last truck with the 3.7 (315hp / 295ft/lbs)/ F150 /10'4" tall 8'wide trailer running at full GCVW never had an issue maintaining 60 the whole way. Revving hard, but it was able.
Torque feels great, but horsepower does the work...
