Truth be told, the lack of power was the bigger issue in that test, 50mph towing a boat? Imagine what a small "house on wheels" behind would feel like. I have towed that section before, and my last truck with the 3.7 (315hp / 295ft/lbs)/ F150 /10'4" tall 8'wide trailer running at full GCVW never had an issue maintaining 60 the whole way. Revving hard, but it was able.
Torque feels great, but horsepower does the work...
You either had an absolute one of a kind 3.7, or this is a bald faced lie to continue your bashing on this engine. ......*.
That's pretty ignorant to say that. I am not claiming fords 3.7 is anything Other than what it is, and frankly, the dodge 3.6 is it's superior when paired with the 8 speed.
That being said, the 3.7 comes with one set of rear gears on my model, which happens to be 3.73's, which makes 2nd gear ideal for climbing, if you don't mind some high rpm engine operation.
To to other poster questioning the output #'s I stated - My F150 has a CAI and exhaust. After reprogramming for those, I was conservatively stating it's output. It really doesn't change how it behaves. Although the intake adds considerable bottom end torque, which affects how it holds gears on the flats.
No, it's not ignorant to say. I know that road from experience. There is no way a typical naturally aspirated V6 that goes into a mid or full size truck is going to run that road at 60 MPH towing a trailer that weighs over 5000 pounds.
