I actually started reading this tread with a degree of interest, but not going to lie, by page 4 or so, it started degrading into "my truck is better then that" and I started fast forwarding...
Going back to the beginning... I really like the idea of a half ton diesel. NOT just because of the numbers... but rather how those numbers are achieved. One of the greatest things about big diesels is not just that they have huge torque numbers, but that they produce that torque at relatively low RPMs. In a case like this, if I can get a truck that will do at 1800 rpm what my gas half ton does at 3500 rpm and has an 8 speed tranny, simple logic dictates that the diesel is going to pull better. Will it perform as well spun right out of a monster hill? Who cares. For me it would be a question of "Does the truck feel like it is killing itself to pull the trailer?"
My gut tells me that because of the flatter torque curve of diesels, a half ton diesel would be a fantastic product. I have the big truck to pull my trailer, but when it comes time to replace the 1500, one of these might be just what the doctor ordered. Kudos to Ram for getting out in front of the market.
