My 2500 works just fine for towing a 25' fiver that grosses 5600# and meets my needs. If I want a trailer that requires a 1 ton dually I need to upgrade my license, ain't gonna happen.
Nothing wrong with a 25' 5er on a 3/4 ton. I'm not sure what is common in Canada, but here, 5ers that small are rare. I saw one here and there when I was searching, but they weren't any cheaper than what I ended up with. Typically they start more at the 28' range (~8k pounds). Loaded pin weight of ~2k pounds will put you really close on payload with people, dogs, and snacks in the cab. Any bigger and you'll be over.
I can't imagine what kind of license rules you guys must have over there. Here I can max GVWR of truck and trailer and still be within my license, assuming no other ratings of the truck are overloaded. Our rules are certainly lax (e.g., no enforcement for many overloaded vehicles out there), but I am not sure I'd want the pendulum to swing the other way.
