Here's a guide that Cummins put out to explain factors that impact mileage. There's a good explanation of the effects of aerodynamic drag. Aerodynamic drag is not a linear function of air speed. Drag rises pretty sharply after 50 mph. Your speed and any headwind or tailwind can really impact how hard your engine has to work to keep you at speed.
