I am actively searching for deals on either truck. Not interested in a diesel at this point, maybe when I retire and can travel more often so right now a gasser is my best option. I have talked to a few folks with the Ram 6.4 and all seem to be very pleased with their towing experience. I have seen very few Nissan XDs in the campgrounds, either gas or diesel, so I have had very little interaction with folks who tow with them. So, can anyone share their experiences with either truck? I have seen several really good deals on the Nissan but not sure that 5.6 would crank out enough power to tow without really being in a strain all the time. Plus, most reviews I have seen haven't been very kind to the Nissan. Any Nissan XD gasser owners out there?

Engine power is only one variable in what makes a "good" tow vehicle. How does the Nissan stack up in gross payload, RAWR, wheelbase, etc ?

Your trying to compare apples to oranges. Cant work. The Nissan is a half ton. The Ram is a three quarter ton. The Nissan is at the end of its design cycle.

The RAM is a real, HD truck. If your going to tow, that's what you need.

What trailer are you planning on towing? I really thought the Nissan would have made more noise with the redesign of the Titan, but they haven't. Sales numbers are not impressive, neither are the reviews that I have seen. If you are looking at the Titan, I think you are on the right track with the gasser version. Cummins really missed the mark with he 5.0. Too bad.Painting in broad strokes, the RAM will almost certainly make a better tow vehicle. You would likely get a better deal on a Titan.

having gone from 1/2 gasser to 3/4 gasser to 3/4 diesel, I would highly recommend you go with the heavier towing platform (GVWR 10,000, 6K rear axle rating, et...), especially if you are considering upgrading from 7700lb trailer in the future. Either XD or 2500 RAM will have sufficient power, but you will want the extra payload capacity.

If the $ are about equivalent, get "more truck". The 2500 rams ride real nice.

F150 Ecoboost with HDPP could be another 1/2 ton option, but that wasn't listed as one of your choices.

Go with the 2500 RAM. But if you want to tow 7K with a half ton....

Get a 2018 F150 HDPP 3.5EB SCREW Lariat 6.5 bed. You'll have 2400 lbs of payload, 11,200 towing capacity. 4800 RAWR, 7850 GVWR. You can thank me later.

The Nissan is the ugliest truck I've ever seen.

Thanks folks for all of your opinions. Loaded weight right now is approx 7k but looking towards the future I can see us pulling upwards of 8.5k. Planning on upgrading campers in the next 5 years or so.

I have towed with the Ram 2500 5.7l AND the Titan XD 5.0l Cummins. My personal preference is hands down the XD. Maybe the 6.4l would have been a better experience. I can't speak to the gasser XD.

Had a friend criticize me for buying a Tundra (built in Indiana) when they first came out because it wasn't "American". I told him it was very confusing because Ford and GM were building vehicles with parts made in Canada and Mexico. Or the entire vehicle was built elsewhere.

So few things are truly "American" anymore.

To the OP, WHAT ARE YOU TOWING? If it's smaller you could go with either trucks. But keep in mind if you ever want a bigger camper you will want the bigger truck. RAM 6.4 is obviously that.

I like my 2017 6.4 powered 2500 a lot. The titan is also a nice truck. I have no complaints with my ram and still love it's a much as I did on day one
