Ram 2500 bed size????

a 2017 Ram 2500 with a 6foot 4 inch bed size, do u still need a sliding hitch with that bed size?
thanks
  • Possibly. The only way around it would be a fiver cut for short bed trucks. The loss of 2 feet of bed space to me would be a deal killer
  • It really depends on the front end/cap design of your fifth wheel. Many of the newer, streamlined and curved front ends don't require a sliding hitch in a short bed.

  • GM 6.5 bed has the longest distance from rear axle to cab, followed by Ford 6.9 inch bed, and Ram 6.4 bed, shortest distance axle to cab. All will hit at some point, but Ram the most likely, when not using a slider.

Funny, I wonder about that with every fifth wheel for all eight feet of the bed, but there are folks that like them.
  • I have a SB Ram with a Companion slider and have never had a need to slide it. My bother has been pulling his FW with a SB Chevy for 8 years with no slider and no issues. Seems like whenever the question comes up it, the consensus is that you will probably never, ever use it but if you need it you'll be glad you have it. How's that for a non-committal answer?

That's because most of us know that it's a lot easier to pull the shifter down to "D" and do a pull up than it is to get out and slide a hitch. Lol
  • I use my manual slider every time I unhitch or hitch. The B&W RVK3270 release lever will not clear the front box without sliding. So I worry less about hitting the cab. Chris
