FireGuard - I have a 2014 Ram 2500 CC with the Cummins and 4x4. I have 16,000 miles on it with 2400 (already have had to cancel 3 trips so far this year due to flooding) of that towing a 32' trailer that weighs about 10K pounds. I use it as a daily driver with lots of short and a few longer trips and so far the mileage is better than any half ton gas truck that I have ever had and no problems with the diesel or emissions. Other than keeping a glove in the door pocket for refueling and having to put a $7 jug of DEF in about every 2500 miles you can't tell it is a diesel other than the sounds. It is fine as a daily driver (keep in mind the turbo lag when pulling out into traffic) and is a towing monster.
I drove a 6.4 before I bought my Cummins and talked to a couple of people who had them and the main comment was while they pulled surprisingly well (one guy said that it pulled a lot better than his old Chevy one ton with a 454) they burned a LOT of gas and range anxiety was a big concern. Driving with a heavy foot can give 10 in town and 5-6 towing) If I don't try to run 75 all day long we have about 300 miles before getting serious about finding a place that can handle 60' combined, and I also have the option of adding an auxiliary tank that would give 1500 miles which you cannot do with a gasser. The diesel does cost more up front and oil changes are more expensive, but between much better fuel economy, higher resale, and towing performance it was worth it to me.
