My experience has been considerably different than those described here. I am pulling 7000 pounds and hauling a family of five plus a bed full of gear. 9.6 hand calculated mpg and no lack of power. Now I am not, and have not, been in the mountains. And I know from past experience that they take a toll on power. If you are towing mountains on a regular basis a turbo, or supercharger, is the only cure. Wether that's in a diesel or gas motor. I also average 17 mpg empty. This truck pulls better than my 98 cummins. Better than the ram v10 I owned and better than my 2012 5.7 hemi. I have not experienced constant shifting, although when towing I lock out 6 th gear and use tow haul mode. I lock out 5th if it's shifting too often. The Hemi needs to spin. And most people are afraid of letting it wind up. If it runs 6000 rpm let it run. It's what they were designed to do. However the standard 80% rule still applies. You will be much happier towing at 80% of recommended rating.
