Relying on the stiction of leafs as "damping" is about the worst thing an engineer can do in suspension design. Mechanical damping, in contrast to viscous damping, has a high static resistance and low dynamic resistance, giving a bouncy and choppy ride.
Much better to use a spring without stiction (coil or air) and tune the shocks for desired damping ratio.
There's nothing wrong with leaf springs, but coil or air is superior in just about every way. Leafs are extremely rare in over the road trucks and buses. Even vocational trucks are starting to ditch them.
