Gas engines and transmissions have made huge strides in the last decade, whereas EPA has forced a decline (or at best stagnate) of overall progress on diesels.
10 years ago, like many others, you couldn't pry me into an HD gas truck. Now it's exactly the other way around.
Diesels still make sense in some applications, like my old Prevost coach and tractor, but for anything less than 30,000 lbs, day in day out, I'd pick a modern gas any day. Many don't realize the maintenance cost of diesels until they own one.
