I bought my truck to pull a trailer, not go get groceries or mulch fro the yard. I can see a gasser as an advantage for a grocery hauler or short RV trips with a smaller trailer.

Okay.... come on now. A 3200# payload capacity 410HP/430 Torque is hardly a "grocery getter". A "smaller trailer". Again, I've got to call BS. The new Ram Eco-diesel with the 900# payload is a grocery getter.
I came from the almighty diesel into the 6.4 Hemi and the diesel does pull better but it's not by much.
The new generation gas engines are pretty nice. With summer fuel I'm getting close to the same MPGs as I did with the diesel doing mixed driving. I honestly don't keep close track because I really don't care that much but when I do watch it I'm somewhere between 1-2 less with the 6.4 Hemi than the Duramax LBZ. That's daily driving. Towing the diesel is probably more like 2-2.5 better.
Diesels are nice and pull better, no doubt. But unfortunately most of us are just weekend warriors when it comes to towing and just use our trucks the other 95% of the time to drive to work, or get groceries :)
