12 Ram CTD. No DEF. Fuel filter $68.00 @ 10,000 miles. Ram says 15,000 but I like to be safe. 12 qts Rotella @$38.99 from Walmart. OEM Mopar oil filter @13.47. Total $52.44. 3 oil changes and one filter = $225.32. Hardly breaking the bank. Typical gasser @7qts and filter is about $38.00. That's what my F150 5.4 was. So two oil changes is $76.00. $225.32-$76.00 equals $149.00. So I spend $149.32 more on maintenance. Big deal.
Towing 11.5 mpg. F150 that it replaced I got 9 mpg. Figuring our usual 4000 miles towing a year and using current fuel prices of $3.71 reg and $3.95 diesel the I save $275.00 in fuel costs. Enough to more than offset the oil and filter difference.
I put another 7000 miles not towing during the rest of the year. At current prices and getting the same mpg's in the 12 Ram 2500 CTD and 2010 F150 5.4 the fuel cost difference is $120.00 more for the CTD.
