- MudChuckerExplorerI have the mega, I don't need to slide the hitch ever...
- bighog01ExplorerThe payload and tow rating differences are minimal. I have the mega cab and the payload is around 5500 lbs, can't remember exactly. The big thing is to have a slider hitch. I don't have one but there have been a few occasions where I wished I had one. You just have to be really careful and plan ahead without one.

Mega cab would have slightly lower payload due to weight, and you may have to run a sliding hitch with the shorter bed.
Not always. The srw mega cab has a 12,300# GVWR so the difference between it and a long bed cc is very little. Dually are about 200 lb difference with the same options. - spoon059Explorer II

Any way to find out whether or not I need a slider hitch beforehand or is it a trial and error kind of thing?
Trial and error will let you know for certain, but its probably cheaper in the long run to buy a slider. - missouri_daveExplorerAny way to find out whether or not I need a slider hitch beforehand or is it a trial and error kind of thing?
