"I don't doubt that your Ram is the best vehicle you've ever owned but it would take quite an interior squeak or rattle to be heard over that Cummins. I realize there are some who like that sound, and others who will even take a nice quiet truck and spend money on it to make it loud....then they spend more money on an aftermarket stereo so they can hear their music over the engine"
when was the last time you "listened" to a brand new Cummins diesel?
It's as quite, if not quieter than the Ford or the Chevy...IF they were as loud as you seem to think they are, I never would have purchased one...I came from three very quiet Chevy D/A's, and loved it.. I'm Not into the loud diesel engines, nor is the wife. The fit and finish of the 10', 12' and 13' Ram were so good that there were no rattles, no air noise through the windows...quietest inside I've owned, and again, the outside noise is quiet with the newer diesels.
NOW, I'll agree with the rest of your analogy, seen it myself, not just "Dodge boys" but also Ford and Chevy owners...tune, delete, make it loud and then, upgrade sound system so they can hear it over the loudness of the diesel...THAT Part of what you wrote, I'm in agreement with.:)
I've been told the new Rams are quiet. Even though the '05 is not as deafening as they were back in '99 it still sounds like tractor. Was it in 2010 that they quietened the Cummins down a little more? Ram has come along way in the last few years with their cab, suspension, and now transmission; Ford has greatly improved their engine. GM has a great powertrain, nice ride and handling characteristics but their cab hasn't been improved much since about '88. Once GM gets their cab on par with the others, it will be fuel economy and price that make the decision for me.
It was 07.5, production 1/1/2007 of the 6.7L Cummins that the sound was dramatically reduced.
Ram will be the least expensive and on par with the others for fuel economy.
So based on your statement I expect to see you in a new 2014 RAM with all the bells and whistles this fall!
Cummins, Trucks in Canada are an extra 10 grand or so over what you pay and I can't buy new out of the US but if I can get you to buy a new 2014 Ram for me and then turn around and sell it to me for cash....I think you could very well see me driving a new Ram this fall.
