Ok, finally got the fifth wheel adapter yesterday and retro-fitted it to work with my superglide hitch. Was finally able to make my first trip with the toy hauler today pulling 30 miles out to the lake.
Here are the differences I noticed between the 2013 Ram and my 2011 GMC Duramax:
Slower speeds - more torque on the low end than the GMC which I like.
Higher speeds - The duramax climbs the hills and maintains speed better than the cummins. My GMC would hold 6th gear pulling the same hills whereas the cummins was shifting down into 4th to maintain the same speed. I assume that as the truck gets more miles and broke in, this will improve.
Engine brake - The cummins engine brake is OK, but not near as good as the Duramax. I think this is due to the fact that the duramax brake combined with the grade braking feature of the allison makes it more effective.
Towing - World of difference with the dually versus single wheel. I cannot believe how much more stable it is. The ride is also very smooth.
Overall, I am very pleased with the new Ram :B. I am sure once I get some more miles on it and everything gets broke in, some of the performance issues will improve.
This is what I am towing
