You will not even know you have the TT behind you at 8500 LBS. I have a 2014 2500 6.4 and pulled our 2015 Winnebago Lite Five for the first time last weekend. For a two hour drive it averaged 9.6 MPG and averages 16.5 on the hwy empty.
If you are planning on going with fifth wheel anytime soon, be advised that there are no rail adapters presently on the market that fit the new truck suspension. We went with and I am very pleased with the Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel adapter. Not only does it leave me with a clean bed when not towing but also is a very quite system with no popping noise while in tow.
