Ram 6.4/4.10 dually vs 2016 Ford 6.2/3.73 dually

Given the choice, which would you prefer? Can't find a 4.30 geared closeout Ford.

I feel my current truck is underpowered, but does the job. 2016 Ford's have 440 torque vs 405 for my 2011.

I like the Ford transmission better than Ram, the select shift on the Ram is slow to respond vs the Ford.

Ram gives you more for your money overall. I can custom order a Ram for close or equal to the closeout Ford price.

  • The above misinformation aside (the 6.4 has never had issues with its MDE like the early 5.7 did), another good reason to get the Hemi; the cylinder deactcivation works great and is proven reliable. It makes a decent improvement in FE and works great on my 6.4.
I doubt it would kick in much when towing though.
  • I would buy the Ford with 4.30's or a GM 6 liter with 4.10's, gas dually before a Ram gasser with cylinder deactivation, you don't need the potential headache. Are you going to continue to haul a TC?
  • Current Diesels are 800+ Ft/lbs of torque, a far cry from any gas engine. Add to that my 91 extra gallons of fuel in the in-bed tank. I can tow over 1,000 miles between fill-ups.
  • Tuner? Good way to become your own warranty station.

Gasser duallie and resale value???? Better get a REALLY good buy.

If you feel your current truck is underpowered, I doubt you will feel much differently about the two trucks you are considering. The extra weight of the dually will consume the extra torque that the newer engine has. I don't take a strong stance in the gas vs. diesel debate, but if you are looking for a substantial increase in loaded performance, consider a diesel in any of the big 3 brands.

I agree with this. You will not be happy with the minor improvement in performance and a tuner on a gasser doesn't do much either but can cause other issues.
  • Get a quality tune and some aftermarket performance enhancements (i.e. exhaust) and you'll likely get a more noticeable difference than a new truck.

  • All personal opinions. I personally feel Fords are over priced and Ram offers way more truck for the dollar. Not to mention a better interior. But to answer your question, I would jot get a 4.10 rear end unless your towing heavy or doing amlot of off roading.
