Gas engines that deliver these HP and MPG #s fill a nice void in the market. The 5.7 Dodge, 6.0 Chevy and 5.4 Ford are under-powered for an 8500lb TT (a common loaded weight). The bigger engines (most discontinued) can do the job but get terrible MPG. The diesel is great but the initial purchase cost is out of a lot of people's budgets.
The accuracy of information never ceases to amaze me. What about the 6.2 ford and is it not rated to pull about twice that much (something like 15000). an 8500 lb load should be not even a sweat for any of the big three gassers, unless you want to stay supersonic.
I would like to give that 6.4 a whirl. We will see how it shakes out in a couple of years.

The point of my post is that the newer gas engines, the Ford 6.2 included, fill a nice void. I didn't list the newer ones by name but they would be the Dodge 6.4, Ford 6.2 and the new Chevy/GMC (can't remember the displacement right off).
Sure, you could pull 8500lbs with a Ford 5.4 Triton but you're not going to be happy doing it.
