I have a 2005 with the 5.9 book says change every 15000.After doing some research on the cummins forums I found it very common to have injector problems or failure due to dirty fuel. If I rember correctly the factory filters will remove particles down to about 4 or 5 microns. for added protection some owners have installed an aftermarket secondary fuel filter kit between the factory filter and the inj. pump, using a fleetguard filter number 5320 that will remove particles down to 2 microns greatly improving injector life. The factory filter will catch probally 99 percent of the dirt ,water and so on,allowing the secondary filter to only need changed every 50000 mi or so. When considering the cost replacing injectors or injector pumps ,regular filter changes is the cheapest insurance you can have.IMO.
