A little more on the "Ball Joints" being bad. My truck is a pavement princess with no off roading no different than the guy in the video. Can't get much easier duty than my truck gets or his concerning ball joint wear.
Wait a minute here, I know for a fact that you drive on California highways all winter and commute North in the spring and South in the fall on I-5 in Northern California, which are similar to "off road" roads in other states.
No lateral stress like off road.
There's a lot of stress on the front end parts when towing a gooseneck/fifth wheel.
Are you kidding????? My 6k pin adds around 175# to the steer axle, THAT will do nothing to cause stress on the front components.
My hitch is full forward to be clear. If this guy adds 100# to his front axle with the RV's he is towing I would be shocked.
If it adds so much stress then my front end should be toast at 102k.
I too tow pretty heavy no where near what you tow ,but as far as I know my ball joints are good at 70K . Getting my drag link replaced ,whenever that happens . After that is done ,I will get it aligned by an independent alignment shop that only does alignment . I'm sure they check ball joints ,but I will make sure . - Grit_dogNavigator^ Yup

Take a relatively cheap/simple and easy to perform task (for a shop) that is beyond the understanding and abilities of the average non diy vehicle owner on any vehicle not under warranty for that component, and sell it as a “must fix, major problem.”
There are others but a saavy/dishonest tire/brake shop owner just licks his chops everytime he sees a solid axle truck pull up!! - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIA little more on the "Ball Joints" being bad. i have owned all of the big 3. my 96 dodge was a nightmare. that does not mean i would not buy another one.
i keep an open mind and pick the one i feel is best at the time. last time it was an easy call. after living under the cp4 cloud for 9 years, i did not want another one. GM was the only choice at the time.
I also went with GM. Its all a compromise. While I am content with my choice. I believe GM has an inferior interior compared to the others.
I was willing to suffer with the spartan interior order to get better reliability and a stellar warranty.
Only time will tell if I made the right choice.
My last Duramax made it to 300K with limited problems.
I want to emphasize limited problems, not zero problem.
Meanwhile it seems it's the Ford guys and Ram guys who can't decide who has the better or worse trucks
Thanks for the opportunity to share a Duramax L5P video. And yes this owner is another died in the wool GM hot shot owner and switched to another brand.

Yea I guess I asked for it! For the record I am not a die hard GM guy.
I believe all 3 are making a decent truck.
My goal is to buy a truck and wear it out in about 10 years. I hope to get 300K out of my truck without and major repairs
Yes there are differences, strong points and weak points.
But in the end I would consider owning all 3.
Well said...- LantleyNomad
