RAM Dually Tires-New Tires

I will soon need to replace the Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires on my truck. I would like to go to a slightly wider tire, LT245/75 R17 rather than the current stock LT235/80 R17.

The 245s have a slightly higher load rating and are actually a little less pricewise than the 235s. My concern is keeping the rear tires from "kissing" when my truck camper is loaded. It appears that there is enough clearance so this won't happen but I want to be positive before dropping the better part of $1500.

Anyone with a RAM dually run (no spacers) this size tire without any issues?

  • I have run the 245/75r17 HT Coopers on all my Ram DWR. The are closer in physical size to the stock Generals that came on the trucks.
  • I have always run stock width on my dual wheel trucks for the reason you mentioned.
  • Actually, not by that much.

235/80/17's are 9 inches section width

    255/80/17's 10.2

    245/75/17's 9.4

Meanwhile you go to a three ply sidewall in the ST Maxx and gain about 8/10 of an inch in tire height.

Just thinking that the Rams run with a six inch width rim.

I don't know if that is actually wide enough to go with the 245.75/17's.

Another option for you may be to try out the Cooper ST Maxx in 255/80/17. Slightly taller tire, but similar in width to your factory 235/80/17's.

    A 255 is wider than a 245, even wider than a 235.

The 245's will be just fine on your truck without spacers. ;)
